About Me

I’m the father of three pretty amazing kids, and I’m married to their mom, my best friend and someone I’ve known since third grade.

I’m a missionary kid, having been raised just under the Iron Curtain, through which my parents smuggled Bibles into the former Soviet Union. I’ve been to 50 countries so far and have an insatiable thirst for new places and experiences.

So I worked as a journalist at newspapers in Oregon, Montana and Ukraine, a television station in Anchorage, Alaska and a public radio station in Chicago, Illinois for ten years.

Now I’m a social media manager for Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, where I do digital storytelling. And my passion is finding new ways to share our oldest form of entertainment and our most important way to communicate with others.

My current side gig is Huginn Muninn Beer, where I’m the Chief Wordsmith, extolling the benefits of barrel-aged sour beer with my brothers in arms for my brothers and sisters in arms.

Specialties and interests: Social media, podcasting, data journalism, blogging, video production, digital photography, smartphone multimedia, mobile journalism, digital strategy, digital audience behavior. Craft beer, Russian literature, fishing, hunting, bird dogs.
