“All you have to do is write one true sentence.” Hemingway

I’m the father of three amazing people, and I’m married to their wonderful mom.
I’ve worked as a journalist at newspapers in Oregon, Montana and Ukraine, a television station in Anchorage, Alaska and a public radio station in Chicago, Illinois.
I’ve created podcast networks and built social media projects and communities for newspaper, television and radio websites, becoming immersed in how different audiences prefer to get information. I’ve grown mobile app views to the point they surpassed the number of page views on our websites. And I’ve increased social audiences through a commitment to building a consistent voice and watching how people process information through social media.
I love wildlife and am passionate about hunting and fishing and communicating science to grow public understanding of natural resource management.
I co-founded the Strange Brews Podcast, the first-ever public radio podcast dedicated to craft beer and pioneered The Grizzly Growler, a syndicated beer blog.
I’ve traveled to more than 50 countries. I taught multimedia journalism to students in Jaipur, India. I shot and edited a video about king crabbing in Alaska, which has reached more than ten-million views on YouTube.
I reported from Havana, Cuba, when Fidel Castro stepped down as president. And I reported for a newspaper in Kyiv, Ukraine during the lead-up to the Orange Revolution.
